Job Purpose and Scope of Job

The Industrial Services Manager is an important role in ensuring the full management of industrial cleaning projects.

The employee is responsible for the management and supervision of staff allocated to the industrial services and associated treatment activities areas including those completed on customer sites where agreed by contract.

The position depends upon the employee having good organisational and management skills, being a good communicator, approachable, fair and respectful.

It is advantageous that the employee has some previous experience of industrial cleaning at management level within a waste company.

Responsibility and Accountability

General Responsibilities

Ensuring compliance with the environmental permit and discharge consent. Assisting with assurance that appropriate processes of monitoring are implemented, seeking advice on process / regulatory issues as appropriate, the emphasis being on compliance with these.

Management and supervision of staff within the industrial services team. Coaching and instructing them so that they understand the commercial aspects of industrial services.

Assisting with operating the industrial services activities, using equipment and resource allocated.

Operating plant equipment when requested (where qualified and authorised).

Working safely to prevent incident to themselves, others, plant and equipment, building, machinery, vehicle, etc. Assisting with or completing accident investigation.

HR associated with staff under their control (inductions, holidays, sickness, discipline, grievance, training, attending courses, toolbox talks, etc.)

Ensuring staff under their control are appropriately trained, competent and have received instruction to work safely, that they have and wear appropriate and suitable PPE, RPE and equipment.

Assisting Directors with implementation of policy, procedures and the strategic plan. Completing toolbox talks and organising / conducting training and instruction as required to maintain compliance.

Developing a safety first culture with all employees. Responsible for all aspects of health, safety and welfare within your area

Assisting in the preparation of COSSH assessments, Risk Assessments and Method statements for industrial cleaning operations. Also, that risk assessment supports activity, work environment, plant and equipment and that it has been communicated to understanding and signed to signify this.

Supporting the Directors, the IMS Manager and SHE Manager during audits including those completed by customers, enforcing authorities, registration bodies and 3rd parties.

Formalising performance reports for Board and Directors

Any other reasonable duty as given by a Director within their capabilities and skills.

  • IOSH Managing Safely or similar preferable
  • Confined Space Trained
  • Water Jetting Trained
  • Working at Height Trained
  • COSHH
  • National Safety Passport
